Electric
and Magnetic Field Quantification of Commercial, Industrial and Transportation
Technologies
Electric Research staff includes several
engineers with career length experience designing and conducting measurement
programs to quantify the electrical characteristics of power delivery systems.
Electric Research staff members have experience in related areas such as
advanced data acquisition, data analysis techniques, and the development of
computer-aided techniques for economically reducing and reporting comprehensive
data. This background has enabled Electric Research to offer imaginative and
effective field measurement services to utility, industrial, commercial, and
governmental clients. Examples of completed studies are:
- Waveform data collected in 28 homes in
Pennsylvania, Florida, Connecticut, and California. Samples of magnetic
fields and currents were recorded every minute over 24 hour periods.
- Waveform and dc magnetic field data collected
in substations, industrial complexes, laboratories, MRI, and commercial
office facilities.
- Waveform and dc magnetic field data to
quantify and characterize the magnetic and electric field environment within
and in the vicinity of the Transrapid TR07 Maglev vehicle operating on the
Emsland FRG Transrapid Test Facility. More comprehensive measurements
(including electric fields and transient magnetic fields) were measured and
reported for the AMTRAK electrified trains, the Boston Metro System, the
Washington, DC Metro System, and the French TGV-A System.
- Waveform, dc, and transient magnetic field
data were recorded in two prototype electric vehicles. These measurements
were conducted with each vehicle on a dynamometer for standard industry and
federal test cycles. Magnetic field measurements were also performed on the
vehicle battery chargers for a variety of charge conditions.
- Waveform data in the ELF band and both VLF and
LF band rms data to quantify the magnetic fields in the three dimensional
space around appliances. These measurements show the magnetic field
attenuation up to 3 meters (10 feet) from the appliance surface.
- RMS spot measurements in ten different
elementary schools. These measurements consisted of magnetic field profiles
and source identification.
- Numerous RMS magnetic field profiles from
operating transmission lines, distribution lines, and in personal
residences. Data for source identification is available.
